God is Steadfast

Updated: Jan 19, 2021

Two terms that have been running through my mind are “unprecedented” and “ever-evolving.” In living memory, there’s never been anything like this. Regarding “unprecedented,” in order to

find anything comparable to what we’re dealing with now, we have to go back over 100 years, as far as I can tell, to the Spanish Flu pandemic of 1918. Fortunately, much has changed since 1918, and we can be grateful for the medical and technological advances that have taken place since then. Nevertheless, for everyone alive on planet earth right now, the COVID-19 pandemic is unprecedented. Thankfully, we serve an all-knowing, all-powerful God for whom this is neither unprecedented nor overwhelming. In Revelation 1:8, the LORD God says, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.” I’m reminded of the Casting Crowns song Already There: “When I’m lost in the mystery / To You my future is a memory / ‘Cause You’re already there / You’re already there.” Be assured that none of this has taken God by surprise and that our God is more powerful than COVID-19! Regarding “ever-evolving,” the situation changes every single day. When new information comes to light, plans we made yesterday (or 5 minutes ago!) must be tossed out and new plans formulated. To be honest, this part has been especially nerve-wracking for me. Even so, even though the situation is ever-evolving, we serve a Savior who never changes. Hebrews 13:8 says, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” This is why I keep saying, “God is still Sovereign, Jesus is still Lord, and this too shall pass.”

Nothing about God has changed. He is still on the throne, and He is still faithful. I’m reminded of the classic hymn Great Is Thy Faithfulness: “Thou changest not / Thy compassions they fail not / As Thou hast been / Thou forever wilt be.” Be assured that, even though the situation with COVID-19 is ever-evolving, our God remains who He has always been and always will be!

I love you all,

Pastor Drew
