Fruits of the Spirit- Self Control

Self-Control. Ugh! It’s a word I hate to hear. Just have some self-control. We are told this when it comes to eating, hobbies, spending money and a variety of other things. Well, what if I don’t want to have self-control? The thought crosses my mind and I immediately cross my arms in a determined kind of way, but that’s not what the Bible tells us and it’s not all about what I want.

Galatians 5:22-23 tell us self-control is a fruit of our spirit. Self-control is us using all the other fruits-better qualities to help us monitor ourselves in a Godly manner. It’s how we regulate our emotions and behaviors in all situations. If we let ourselves go without controlling our reactions and behaviors, we won’t be showing a very pretty side of Christ to the world around us. Even though it might not be what we want to do, sometime it is what we need to do because of who we represent.

Let’s add some self-control to our lives and let the fruit of our actions show others the light and spirit of Jesus.
